什么是甲状腺？
甲状腺是一个形状类似蝴蝶样的内分泌器官，正常位于颈前部。其功能为合成甲状腺激素，这些合成的激素分泌到血液中最后到达身体的组织的每一个部分。甲状腺激素可以帮助人体应用能量、保持体温，并让大脑、心脏、肌肉和其他器官发挥其应有的作用。

甲状腺怎样发挥功能？
甲状腺分泌的主要甲状腺激素是甲状腺素，由于它包含着4个碘原子，所以也被称为T4。T4通过脱去一个碘原子转化为T3而发挥其作用。这种转化作用主要发生于肝脏以及其他T3起作用的相关组织中，例如大脑中。甲状腺产生T4的数量受另一种位于大脑基底部脑垂体产生，被称为促甲状腺激素的激素所控制。
